#30DaysWild – Day 14 – Burbage Common

I haven’t been to Burbage Common for quite a while, so today it was really nice to visit an old familiar wild site.

I walked through the peaceful gorgeous woodland, surrounded by lush vegetation and birdsong. I spotted a miniscule spider spinning a new web on a small sapling. I was of course delighted to see the obligatory squirrels that come with such a beautiful woodland.

As I wandered a little further I came to a gateway that open onto a meadow, full of buttercups and ox eye daisies. Butterflies that danced above the wildflowers and grasses. The beetles and bees were more busy, flying directly from flower to flower, but taking the time to drink from the colourful blooms.

My photograph for August

A little late with this month’s photo but I hope it is worth the wait!
I really enjoying watching the butterflies this August, I also joined in with Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count. It was while I was doing a count, that I took this photo.
Flying around a small wooded area, this Comma landed in the perfect position. Catching the warm sunlight, the wings of the butterfly almost look like they are glowing!

#30DaysWilds – Day 13 – Tiny frogs and colourful close-ups

Today I thought I’d take a closer look at some of nature’s beauty. All that detail and colour. My only challenge was photographing it in the wind!

Best moment was when a small movement on the surface of some damp ground grabbed my attention. I thought it was a beetle, then I saw some more movement. I inspected the area more closely and saw that the tiny creatures were juvenile frogs! They shone like gems in the sunlight! Utterly delightful!

#30DaysWild – Day 12 – Watched a spider spin its web!

I stepped out at golden hour to find my wild moment, a little late in the day but you never know what you might see.

As the rich sunlight shone across a lovely meadow, a spider caught my eye. Moving back and forth with careful precision I realised it was spinning its web. I stayed and watched as the sun got lower in the sky and the strands of silk went from gold to silver. It looked like hard work for the little arachnid, but the end result was beautiful to see!

My photograph of the month for April

Choosing this month’s photograph was a tough one! All the new life has exploded everywhere!

Flowers, birds and insects have been brought forth by the promise of the sun’s warmth. I have spent a lot of time admiring the gorgeous yellow glows of dandelions that have filled the local grass verges. Bringing colour for us and much needed pollen and nectar to our early insect risers! I have seen many bees like this one, revelling in the pollen provisions of these precious golden blooms.

Day 27 #30DaysWild

Yesterday I was thinking I hadn’t seen many butterflies this year at all, that changed today! On a walk around my local wild patch, I passed by a area of bramble and the flowers were not only attracting lots of bees but also several species of Butterfly! I even spotted my first Dragonfly and Froglet of the year too!

I also managed to finish my butterfly painting I started yesterday! I’m no Monet, but I did enjoy creating it!
