Big Butterfly Count: Trench Wood

At the start of the Big Butterfly Count, I decided to give myself a bit of a treat … I visited Trench Wood, Worcestershire. I saw Brimstones, Gatekeepers, Meadow browns, Skippers, Ringlets and a super fast Purple Hairstreak. I also saw Fritillaries, so frenetic and flighty, I didn’t stand a chance in photographing them or identifying what species they were! However, I was excited to have my second ever spot of these beautiful butterflies!

I love Trench Wood, it is a wonderful place. So many birds, butterflies and other insects. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

My photograph for August

A little late with this month’s photo but I hope it is worth the wait!
I really enjoying watching the butterflies this August, I also joined in with Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count. It was while I was doing a count, that I took this photo.
Flying around a small wooded area, this Comma landed in the perfect position. Catching the warm sunlight, the wings of the butterfly almost look like they are glowing!

My Big Butterfly Count 2016

I take part in the Big Butterfly Count every year. It’s great fun to do and I would encourage anyone to do it!

Though I’ve now been in the Market Bosworth area for a year now, this is the first opportunity do the Big Count here.

As always, I enjoyed my count. The chosen place was my local patch, it is so full of life! In the 15 minutes of doing the survey, not only did I see 9 different species of butterfly, but I also saw Dragonflies, Damselflies, Bees, Snails, Birds and, Black and Yellow Longhorn beetle. I even had a frog jump over my foot!

If you want to take part, you can find out more at The Big Butterfly Count website here.
