My photograph of the month for August

It took me a while to choose my photograph for this month. In the few warm sunny days that we have had, I have enjoyed watching many beautiful insects. Out of the many butterflies, dragonflies, beetles and bees, this fuzzy buff-tailed bumblebee is my winner for this month!

#30DaysWild day 10 & 11

Day 10 – Starlings

A blustery day at work ended with a few magical moments watching a small group of Starlings, all foraging in a windswept patch of grass.

Day 11 – Beetles, bees & blooms

Today I took the opportunity to appreciated beetles and bees revel in the nectar and pollen provided by beautiful wildflowers.

#30DaysWild day 7 & 8 – a days rest and a day with bugs!

Day 7
I was feeling under the weather, so going outside was a bad plan. My day 7 was spent under the duvet with Springwatch Live running in the back ground of my snoozing.

Day 8
Despite the inclement weather, I’ve managed to have quite a wild day.

I have found some bugs in some unlikely places! A Woodlouse making it home on my friends desk, a Lesser Stag Beetle in the kitchen and finally a White Ermine in the toilets at work!

The bugs got returned to the green outdoors. I managed to film the Lesser Stag Beetle take her first steps in her new home.

I also made a trip down to the nature reserve at work again, I watched a Buzzard being mobbed by 3 Jackdaws. I spotted my first Speckledwood of the year and had the brief opportunity to admire a view of a female Scorpionfly.

#30DaysWild day 4 – Green leaves and a red beetle

Stood in a little woody patch at work today, I found myself looking at the species of trees around me. The more I looked the more I saw, what on the surface looked like mainly scots pine and dogwood, had 11 different species!

While looking at all those green leaves, a little splash of red caught my eye. A Red-Headed Cardinal Beetle was crawling round the under growth before spreading its wings to find new ground.

My photograph of the month for April

Choosing this month’s photograph was a tough one! All the new life has exploded everywhere!

Flowers, birds and insects have been brought forth by the promise of the sun’s warmth. I have spent a lot of time admiring the gorgeous yellow glows of dandelions that have filled the local grass verges. Bringing colour for us and much needed pollen and nectar to our early insect risers! I have seen many bees like this one, revelling in the pollen provisions of these precious golden blooms.

My photograph from October!

In early October I was very happy to see one of my favourite species of butterfly out and about, the Small Copper.

I found this little beauty enjoying some flowers in my friend’s garden.

My photograph from August!

A few days late but here is my photograph from August.

The Dragonflies have been out on force these last few weeks and they have been looking stunning! I have had many glorious afternoons both watching and photographing these beauties. I took so many photos that I had a real struggle picking this month’s photo. I’m thankful to my friend came to my aid and said that I should share this photo, it is their favourite for this month!

Day 27 #30DaysWild

Yesterday I was thinking I hadn’t seen many butterflies this year at all, that changed today! On a walk around my local wild patch, I passed by a area of bramble and the flowers were not only attracting lots of bees but also several species of Butterfly! I even spotted my first Dragonfly and Froglet of the year too!

I also managed to finish my butterfly painting I started yesterday! I’m no Monet, but I did enjoy creating it!

Day 26 #30DaysWild

Last day in National Insect Week, so I marked the occasion by watching a Natural World (from 2011) called “Butterflies: A Very British Obsession”. Though a few years old, it was wonderful and eccentrically British!

Day 26

Headed out to the shops but was delayed as when I stepped outside I came across this stunning female Ghost Moth! I was really rather taken with this beauty!

Continuing the Lepidoptera theme, I decided to get a little arty and paint a picture of butterfly! I haven’t finished it yet so I shall share a photo of it tomorrow.
