#30DaysWild – Day 3 – A countryside cycle

Despite the cool and cloudy weather, I did head outside today. I went for a 9 mile cycle through the beautiful British countryside.

I took the time to stop, admire the views and take a few photos! I was also lucky enough to see some great wildlife: Song thrush, mistle thrush, jay, blackbirds, robins, blue tits, yellowhammer, house martins, rabbits, hares and a speedy vole that narrowly escaping the wheels of an oncoming car!

#30DaysWild – Day 5 – Cycling through country lanes

I had a wonderful start to my day today, my first cycle to work from my new home! Though it wasn’t a bright sunny morning, it was a lovely ride through country lanes. Either side of the road was lush green fields and hedgerows. Birds sat singing high in the trees, while others darted across and along the verges filled with grasses and wildflowers.

Even though the cycle was good exercise, I arrived at work feeling refreshed, happy and really quite relaxed. I’m looking forward to my cycle tomorrow!

#30DaysWild – Day 15 – Beetles and bikes

Today I went to watch the Women’s Tour of Britiain. You might be wondering what a cycle race has to do with 30 Days Wild, well I decided it was worth the 15 mile cycle through the countryside to see the race pass through my local area.

Not only was it a glorious day to have a cycle anywhere, but the journey was beautiful. There was so many species of birds flying by and singing.

On my way home I stopped for a snack and paused at a lay-by. Sitting on a log I watched bees, beetles and butterflies visiting the flowers that lined the colourful verge. My snack finished, I went to get up, but before I could I felt a sharp pain on my behind. It made me stand up VERY quickly! Looking back I saw a large black ground beetle that had not been there when I had sat down. It quickly scurried back into its wooden crevice in the log. It was then I realised that I had been bitten on the bottom by a beetle! There’s a first time for everything!

It might have been a long ride, but it was worth it. I feel inspired enough to take that ride again!

#30DaysWild – Day 9 – Cycling in the countryside

I cycle to work quite regularly. And though there are occasional days when the distance or the weather can make to journey quite daunting before breakfast, it is a scenic journey!

Throughout the year I get to watch sun rises and sun sets, listen to the birds and watch how the landscape changes with the seasons. I’ve also given nicknames to the horses I pass on my journey!

On this cool June morning, the sun might not have been out but the greens of trees were lush! The birds were singing beautifully – Skylarks, Swallows and Yellowhammers. It was a thoroughly pleasant way to make my journey to work. I did take a moment to pause and while taking a slug of water I watched a Treecreeper hopping about the branches of an old Oak tree. I even got to wave a greeting to my favourite equine friends (Sensible Pony and Foal).

On a day like today, I don’t miss driving on the M42!

#30DaysWild day 2 – my commute to work!

My usual commute to work is my 2nd 30 Days Wild. It’s a 8.5 mile cycle through gorgeous countryside.

The crisp green hedges are marked by grand oaks providing shelter for squirrels, rabbits, pheasants and partridges. There are plenty of perches for buzzards and kestrels to survey their surroundings.

It’s a peaceful ride but not a quiet one, as the air was full of bird song – skylark, yellowhammer and chiffchaff were all singing their little hearts out.

I even saw two hares running in the distance across a farmer’s field.

Not a bad start to the day, not bad at all!
