A blustery day at work ended with a few magical moments watching a small group of Starlings, all foraging in a windswept patch of grass.

Day 30 #30DaysWild

Having moved to my new home about a year ago, I haven’t yet managed to find any bat activity. Yesterday I thought it was high time to take my bat detector out and see if I could hear any bats in my garden.

I stepped outside and turned my bat detector on ….. nothing. I carefully walked around and still … nothing. Then I caught a very faint ‘tip tap tip tap’, I turned a little and there it was again ‘tip tap tip tap’. I knew it wasn’t a bat, but what was it? I scanned around and again the ‘tip tap tip tap’ continued. There walking across the path was a hedgehog! My bat detector had not found a single bat, but it had amplified the sound of a hedgehog out for a stroll!

As for today, the last day of 30 Days Wild. I finished off a little project I started 3 weeks ago, painting pebbles! It’s taken me a while but it’s been wonderfully relaxing to do!

I have loved taking part in 30 Days Wild again this year, it has pushed me to try a few new things and helped me find new wild places. With National Insect Week in the middle, it has been a brilliant month!

Day 27 #30DaysWild

Yesterday I was thinking I hadn’t seen many butterflies this year at all, that changed today! On a walk around my local wild patch, I passed by a area of bramble and the flowers were not only attracting lots of bees but also several species of Butterfly! I even spotted my first Dragonfly and Froglet of the year too!

I also managed to finish my butterfly painting I started yesterday! I’m no Monet, but I did enjoy creating it!

Day 26 #30DaysWild

Last day in National Insect Week, so I marked the occasion by watching a Natural World (from 2011) called “Butterflies: A Very British Obsession”. Though a few years old, it was wonderful and eccentrically British!

Day 26

Headed out to the shops but was delayed as when I stepped outside I came across this stunning female Ghost Moth! I was really rather taken with this beauty!

Continuing the Lepidoptera theme, I decided to get a little arty and paint a picture of butterfly! I haven’t finished it yet so I shall share a photo of it tomorrow.

Day 23 #30DaysWild

Today I came across this excellently camouflaged little beetle – a Green Tortoise Beetle. I think it’s amazing!

Continuing on the beetle theme, I rescued this Lesser Stag Beetle from the middle of a busy path, returning it a rotten log.
