National Meadows Day

In honour of National Meadows Day, I visited my favourite meadow at golden hour. It is beautiful place anytime of the day, but the light this evening made the wild flowers shine!

#30DaysWilds – Day 13 – Tiny frogs and colourful close-ups

Today I thought I’d take a closer look at some of nature’s beauty. All that detail and colour. My only challenge was photographing it in the wind!

Best moment was when a small movement on the surface of some damp ground grabbed my attention. I thought it was a beetle, then I saw some more movement. I inspected the area more closely and saw that the tiny creatures were juvenile frogs! They shone like gems in the sunlight! Utterly delightful!

#30DaysWild – Day 8 – I found a Bee Orchid!

I found a flowering Bee Orchid in my local patch! I am thrilled! I have only ever seen them in photos so I’m over the moon to find one. Isn’t it a stunning flower!

Now I’ve home, I’ve pulled open May’s BBC Wildlife magazine to read the article on Orchids. I will enjoy finding out more about these beautiful plants.

#30DaysWild – Day 2 – Sketching wildflowers

Today I thought I’d enjoy taking a closer look at some wildflowers.

Normally I would take my camera and snap a few photos, but I chose to do something different … I took the time to sketch them.

This is definitely a tranquil way to appreciate nature’s beauty!

#30DaysWild days 22, 23, 24 and 25

Day 22- Some unexpected wildlife

As I was leaving work, I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to have a wild moment, a Red Kite flew overhead. Not something seen there until about 2 months ago. Exciting to see!

Then when I got home, I came across this beauty waiting for me on my front door!

Day 23 – Ox eye daisy

In May I planted an Ox eye daisy plant, today it finally flowered! I took a photo because I clearly wasn’t the only one enjoying the new bloom.

Day 24 – Burt

While out and about at work today, one of the very tame resident Robins came to say hello! I call them all Burt – after Burt Ward. If you’re really lucky, they sometimes come and feed from your hand!

Day 25 – An unusual view of a moth

Today I had the chance to admire a very pretty moth. It had landed on a window, so I was able to not only see the top of the moth but also the underside of it. I think those eyes are amazing!

#30DaysWild day 6 – a wild moment at work!

Today’s mission was to carry out some wildlife surveys for work in the beautiful nature reserve we have on site.

A blustery wet day didn’t dampen my spirits as the lush greens and bright colours of the wild flowers glistened in the rain. The birds were out too – bullfinches, whitethroats and reed buntings sang merrily away.

There’s no place I’d rather be.

My New Neighbourhood: Part 3

I found my new local patch. A stunning little SSSI just down the road from my new home.
My first visit there was quite by accident, it was the first place I explored! It was gorgeous, purple willowherb and creamy-white meadowsweet. I strolled the boardwalk admiring this little gem of a find, excited at everything I saw.

My second visit was a few days later, this time it was at golden hour. My goodness was the lighting wonderful! It made the place look totally anew!

A week or so later I visited again, the flowers are fading but the insect life has come out in force. The place is alive with dragonflies, squabbling Speckled Wood and various hungry hoverflies.

This summer has been quite a busy one.
A new home, new experiences and new adventures!
