#30DaysWild – Day 23 – Macro photos on a mobile phone

My mobile isn’t exactly the smartest of phones, and the camera is far from DSLR quality in terms of photos. However, I was given a little gadget at Christmas that has been rather fun to play with, and that’s a clip-on mobile macro lens. The amount of detail that shows through is amazing.

So today I decided to get a little closer to nature and took my phone and clip-on lens out into the wild. These are some of the photos I managed to take.

#30DaysWilds – Day 13 – Tiny frogs and colourful close-ups

Today I thought I’d take a closer look at some of nature’s beauty. All that detail and colour. My only challenge was photographing it in the wind!

Best moment was when a small movement on the surface of some damp ground grabbed my attention. I thought it was a beetle, then I saw some more movement. I inspected the area more closely and saw that the tiny creatures were juvenile frogs! They shone like gems in the sunlight! Utterly delightful!

My photograph of the month for April

Choosing this month’s photograph was a tough one! All the new life has exploded everywhere!

Flowers, birds and insects have been brought forth by the promise of the sun’s warmth. I have spent a lot of time admiring the gorgeous yellow glows of dandelions that have filled the local grass verges. Bringing colour for us and much needed pollen and nectar to our early insect risers! I have seen many bees like this one, revelling in the pollen provisions of these precious golden blooms.

My photograph from October!

In early October I was very happy to see one of my favourite species of butterfly out and about, the Small Copper.

I found this little beauty enjoying some flowers in my friend’s garden.

A little closer!

Christmas was kind to my camera! I had a few additional gadgets to add to my kit.

The first was a doubler to increase the telescopic length of my lens, bringing me that much closer to would-be distant wildlife. I was advised against a x2 zoom, some saying get a x1.4 zoom, others saying don’t bother at all. But I love my 2x zoom, it is testing my technical camera skills with great rewards.

My other gadget is a set of macro-tubes; placed between the camera body and lens to act as a magnifier. Again this is also testing my technical camera knowledge with great rewards. My first test drive was of the tubes was on fabrics. My first test on a living thing was of a crocus which I think looks a little like a Georgia O’Keeffe painting.

I also got very lucky on Easter Sunday, a rare moment of sunshine brought the bees out of the hives and I got this lovely shot.

I’m sure I’m going to have more fun with these gadgets in the summer months in the mean time I’ll keep watching the migrants arrive and the buds unfurl!
