#30DaysWild – Day 29 – I went crepuscular!

Stepping out at dusk, I took a walk through farmer’s fields. As I admired the warm colours of the darkening skies I was spotted by a group of lambs. Their curious nature lead them to come up to me to take a closer look, and for a time I was completely surrounded! It didn’t take them long to lose interest and charge back towards their bale of hay.

Continuing my walk, I passed though a church yard. Digging out my bat detector, I was able to listen to the bats forage among the trees. The aerobatic flight of bats never cease to mesmerise me!

Returning home I had my last crepuscular moment for the evening, a lovely little hedgehog!

#30DaysWild day 16 – An early morning visitor!

My wild moment today happened very early on, 3:30am in fact. Waking up and needing a glass of water, I headed down stairs. A quick nosey out into the garden lead me to find a hedgehog scoffing the food left out for it. I normally step away at this point but as a one off I quickly took a single photo, lit by the light of the screen of my mobile phone. I then let the hungry hog be.

Day 30 #30DaysWild

Having moved to my new home about a year ago, I haven’t yet managed to find any bat activity. Yesterday I thought it was high time to take my bat detector out and see if I could hear any bats in my garden.

I stepped outside and turned my bat detector on ….. nothing. I carefully walked around and still … nothing. Then I caught a very faint ‘tip tap tip tap’, I turned a little and there it was again ‘tip tap tip tap’. I knew it wasn’t a bat, but what was it? I scanned around and again the ‘tip tap tip tap’ continued. There walking across the path was a hedgehog! My bat detector had not found a single bat, but it had amplified the sound of a hedgehog out for a stroll!

As for today, the last day of 30 Days Wild. I finished off a little project I started 3 weeks ago, painting pebbles! It’s taken me a while but it’s been wonderfully relaxing to do!

I have loved taking part in 30 Days Wild again this year, it has pushed me to try a few new things and helped me find new wild places. With National Insect Week in the middle, it has been a brilliant month!
