#30DaysWild – Day 17 – Swifts

UK Swift Awareness Week started yesterday, a week dedicated to these amazing summer visitors that are rapidly declining in numbers. I had noticed their absence this year, having only spotted 2 in the past month, flying high above my village.

I spent a large part of my day on a hunt for Swifts. I saw lots of House Martins, some Swallows too, I even saw a Hobby from my car window. But not a single Swift. I came home feeling rather sad at the fact I had not spotted my bounty.

Needing milk for my consolation cuppa, I headed out to the shop. It was getting late, but to my utter delight, I spotted a single Swift in amongst House Martins. All displaying their incredible aerobatic flying skills!

My Photography from May

Of all the photographs I took in May, the one I took in a split second opportunity on the very last day of the month became my choice.
When this Swallow landed I whipped my head and camera round, took one shot and then the elegant and graceful bird was gone!
